Qatar men’s volleyball team eased to a second successive win at the third GCC Games in Kuwait yesterday. At the SHK Saad Al Abdullah Multi Sports Complex, Qatar swept past Saudi Arabia 3-0 in a Group A match Qatar, who defeated Oman in straight games in their first match on Friday, dominated Saudi Arabia to record a 25-18, 25-16, 25-20 victory. In other Group A match, Bahrain blanked United Arab Emirates with a 25-20, 25-19, 25-23 score-line.
Qatar men’s basketball team also claimed a victory yesterday, beating United Arab Emirates 72-61 in their Group A match. Bahrain also notched up a victory in the group after overcoming Saudi Arabia 63-51.
Meanwhile, Qatar swimming team yesterday received a rousing welcome on return from Kuwait after their sparkling performance at the GCC Games. The swimmers won a total of 18 medals for Team Qatar including 3 gold, eight silver and seven bronze medals. “We thank Allah for this outstanding performance at the GCC Games. We will try to improve and will show a better performance in the next edition of Games,” said Qatar Swimming Association President Khalil al-Jaber.
Qatar are third on the table with an overall 39 medals including 12 gold, 15 silver and 12 bronze medals. Kuwait is currently on top with 21 gold, 19 silver and 18 bronze medals followed by Bahrain, who have secured a total of 44 medals including 17 gold, 16 silver and 11 bronze medals.
