Qatari dignitaries condemned the killing of veteran Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh by Israeli occupation forces.
They offered condolences to the family of Abu Akleh and also expressed solidarity with the journalism community for the loss.
"A journalist assassinated in cold blood. Why? Because she was covering an Israeli army raid on the Jenin refugee camp when she was shot in the face by a single bullet. I call upon the international community to hold Israeli forces accountable," said HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, Qatar Museums (QM) Chairperson, on Twitter.
She continued, "For decades, they have killed and murdered innocent civilians claiming lands of their ancestors as their own; targeting journalists for sharing with the rest of the world the realities on the ground is unacceptable anywhere, including Palestine.
"Shireen Abu Akleh, 51 — was an Arab woman who dedicated her career to covering the truth. My thoughts go out to her family and the journalist community who lost one of their unarmed soldier. May her soul rest in peace."
HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani tweeted, "My sincere condolences to the family of journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, her colleagues at Al Jazeera & the media community. The occupying forces should be held accountable for such horrific crimes committed against the Palestinians & they should not be subject to double standards."
HE the Assistant Foreign Minister Lolwah bint Rashid AlKhater also condemned the killing of Abu Akleh.
She tweeted, "Israeli occupation killed Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh by shooting her in the face while wearing the 'Press' vest and a helmet. She was covering their attack in Jenin refugee camp. This state sponsored Israeli terrorism must STOP, unconditional support to Israel must END."
