The International Youth Star Contender will be held in Qatar from March 7-11, 2022 at the Lusail Sports Arena.
This was announced by Qatar Table Tennis Association (QTTA) on Sunday.
A separate category has been established for singles and doubles competitions for under 15 (boys and girls) as well as singles and doubles competitions for under-19s (boys and girls).
The tournament will be conducted in accordance with the rules and regulations of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), the QTTA confirmed yesterday.
Senior players are selected based on the highest ranking, most contested tournaments and international rankings while in the preliminary rounds, the lower ranked entries will play international tournaments and matches. The registration period for participation in the tournament runs from January 20, 2021, until February 11, 2022.
ITTF said in a statement: “QTTA, headed by Khalil bin Ahmed al-Mohannadi, is considered one of the best international federations. The tournaments hosted by Qatar are always characterised by an excellent technical and administrative level as well as a high attendance and participation of the best players around the world.”
Meanwhile, the QTTA yesterday said the Men’s Table Tennis League Championship for the 2021-2022 season will start from today at the Preparation and Training Center in Ras Abu Aboud. The federation said the matches will be held amid precautionary measures underlined by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) to limit the spread of the Covid-19.
A total of 5 matches will be played in the first round in which Al Sadd play Al Shamal, Al Arabi take on Al Gharafa, Al Rayyan face Al Wakrah and Al Ahli battle Al Khor. The competitions will continue non-stop with the second round matches starting tomorrow when Al Sadd take on Al Wakra, Al Arabi face Al Khor and Al Rayyan play Al Ahli.
