Qatar has signed an agreement with the World Food Programme (WFP) to support food security and nutrition in Yemen at a value of $90mn.
The signing of the agreement was witnessed by HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, who is also Chairman of the Qatar Fund for Development.
The agreement was signed for Qatar by Director General of Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) Khalifa bin Jassim al-Kuwari and for the World Food Programme (WFP) by its Executive Director David Beasley.
The 12-month agreement, which will benefit 7,621,932 people, includes general food assistance, provision of food for children, pregnant and lactating women, provision of health and nutrition counseling with the aim of educating the community on positive food behaviours, and the provision of "humanitarian air service" to transport volunteers and staff internationally and within Yemen.
HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs also met with the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, who is currently visiting the country.
During the meeting, they reviewed the cooperation relations between Qatar and the UNRWA.
HE Sheikh Mohamed witnessed the signing of two agreements between the fund and UNRWA to provide financial support with a total value of $25mn , including support for the activities of the United Nations over two years, in addition to support for Palestinian refugees in Syria in several sectors, as part of Syria Regional Crisis Emergency Appeal by the UNRWA .
The two agreements were signed for Qatar by Khalifa bin Jassim al-Kuwari , and for UNRWA by Lazzarini.
