Law No. 22 of 2021 regulating health care services will guarantee all Qatar residents access to comprehensive healthcare services, Hamad General Hospital's medical director Dr Yousef al-Maslamani told Qatar TV Wednesday.
The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) confirmed that the law would work to develop and organise the health sector in the country, official Qatar News Agency reported.
His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani issued on Tuesday Law No. 22 of 2021 , regulating health care services within the country. The law is effective six months after its publishing in the official gazette.
The MoPH noted Wednesday that based on the new law, a mandatory health insurance system will be implemented for all expatriates and visitors to the country to provide basic health care services to them through health care providers in several government health facilities and the private sector, according to the insurance coverage system for them.
"The new law will guarantee particular patients get the necessary treatment at the suitable place including the Primary Health Care Corporation health centres and the specialised medical facilities in an easy and quickly accessible way, as the members of the society will be categorised according to the health conditions classification," Dr al-Maslamani explained.
The official also clarified that Qatari citizens will be provided with the necessary health services at all the health facilities of the country without the need for health insurance, as it is the responsibility of the state.
Also speaking to QTV, Khalid al-Mughesib, adviser to the Minister of Public Health, said all expatriates will have to get the basic health insurance that will be launched after six months.
"This would be through their employers and expatriates should get health insurance for their family members residing in the country. It is a basic health insurance for all and there will be a practical mechanism and regulations for implementing this," he added.
