Hamad al-Sahouti took victory in the QSSP 300 class as the new season of the Qatar Superstock and Qatar Touring Car kicked off at the Losail Circuit yesterday.
With qualifying sessions held for QSTK 600 and QTCC yesterday, the young riders battled it out in the QSSP 300. And after a thrilling battle of seven laps, Al-Sahouti edged past Yousef al-Darwish by +0.121 seconds. In third place was Saad al-Harqan. All the riders were riding Kawasaki Ninja 400.
Meanwhile, Saeed al-Sulaiti took the QSTK 600 pole position. Al-Sulaiti clocked a time of 2:04.582 in his last lap. The defending champion Abdulla al-Qubaisi was second fastest while veteran rider Meshal al-Naimi completes the front row in the grid for today’s race.
The number of competitors in bike and car championships has increased compared to previous years due to the season’s late start because of the Covid-19 pandemic. There will be two categories in QSTK 600 and QSSP 300 for the bikes, while only QTCC 2K for the cars.
Twenty riders from nine different countries took part in a practice session for the QSTK 600 category for bikes. At the same time, ten participated in the QSSP 300 category. The number increased for cars, there are 27 people participating in the QTCC.
