Doha
Two murals based on the works of the celebrated Qatari artist, the late Dr Wafa al-Hamad, have been unveiled on Building 36 of Katara - the Cultural Village.
The murals, titled 'A Dream in the Seabed', were unveiled by Katara general manager Prof Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti. During her lifetime, Dr al-Hamad was one of Qatar’s most renowned artists, holding numerous exhibitions locally, regionally and across the world.
She was famous for combining a view of the old world with modern techniques and perspective. After graduating from Qatar University, she pursued a career in fine arts, returning to the university in 2000 as assistant professor of art education. Dr al-Hamad passed away in 2012 after a five-year battle with cancer.
