The Stadium Security Section at the Establishments and Authorities Security Department yesterday organised a training workshop for volunteers in co-operation with Qatar Basketball Federation at Al Gharafa Sports Club. The workshop was held within the framework of the ‘You Are Important’ initiative, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said in a statement. Fifty volunteers from both genders and different age groups participated in the programme.
The workshop included theoretical and practical exercises that dealt with the best ways to co-operate with the public in general and introduced them to some skills related to security and safety procedures at stadiums, dealing with emergencies, fires, injuries and evictions and monitoring signs of rioting among the public, the statement noted. The workshop aimed to raise the skills of the participants in these areas. Capt Saeed Jumaa al-Hitmi, supervisor of the initiative, said yesterday’s programme is one in a series of workshops that would present to volunteers the tasks that they need carry out to serve the public. He added that the upcoming workshops will target more volunteers. Ali Saeed al-Maliki, secretary-general of Qatar Basketball Federation, stressed the importance of such workshops as these are expected to have a positive impact in the future, right up to the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He added that the event was held following several co-ordination meetings with those responsible for implementing the ‘You Are Important’ initiative.
