Saeed al-Sulaiti made it a clean sweep with three successive wins en route to winning the Qatar Online Racing Championship for bikes on Thursday. The three-time Qatar Superstock (QSTK) 600 champion showed he is skillful with MotoGP 19 PS4 as he is with his bike on the track.
Al-Sulaiti won all three races in the final weekend of the competition, but his victory on Thursday was not without any drama.
Needing to finish third to ensure the title, al-Sulaiti started from tenth position and also suffered an early crash on Turn 5 of the Losail International Circuit but recovered to win the 15-lap race by an impressive 11 seconds ahead of his closest rival Soud al-Thani. The 35-year-old finished with a maximum 120 points and took home QR15,000 in prize money.
Al-Sulaiti won every race – five in total – he took part in. He had missed out on taking part in the second qualification race due to connectivity issues.
Soud al-Thani, who led for the first four laps, came second with 108 points and bagged QR13,000. Khalid al-Maraghi, despite finishing sixth in the race, finished with 95 points, which was enough for him to take the third spot and QR10,000.  Kuwait’s Mohamed Zaidan took fourth place, while Hade Ahmed was fifth.
In total 21 riders had signed up for the championship, including four from Kuwait. The race format consists of qualifying for 15 minutes, followed by the race for 30 mins.
The event is organised by the Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation for bike racing connoisseurs after the virtual series for cars received an overwhelming response.
