The seventh edition of Qatar Strongest Man (QSM) got over on Friday, when thousands of fans watched a tough competition between eight players to win the Qatar’s Strongest Man 2019 competition.
Christopher Oketch won the competition for the fifth time, followed by Mohamed Dweidar in second and Kenyan Joseph Iroo Ekadeli in third.
Every year, Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) strives to make the Qatar Strongest Man event "bigger and better, with an exceptional ambiance and higher standards", statement noted.
The eight finalists go through five challenges: the first challenge is Conan’s Wheel, in which contestants must lift and carry a 180kg bar on a rotating platform. The second challenge is Sand Bag Lifting, in which contestants take sand bags off a box and place them on high stands. The third challenge is Giant Wheel Tyre Flipping, in which athletes must flip a 120kg tyre down a 25m course. The fourth challenge is Truck Pulling, in which athletes must pull a 6-tonne truck for 25m.
What makes this edition stand out is the new challenge: Axle Press, with the contestant having to lift the axle from the floor to overhead.
To ensure that competitors remain safe throughout the intense competition, AZF has allocated a team made up of physiotherapists from Aspetar, the orthopaedic and sports medicine hospital in Qatar, and medics from Qatar Red Crescent Society.
A large number of sports fans attended the event and the stands were packed with cheering people, as eight of the brawniest men in Qatar tackled five mammoth challenges – each one demanding extraordinary strength and endurance.
This year’s edition was sponsored by Ooredoo Qatar, Aspire Active, Jaidah Group - Heavy Equipment, Megapolis Entertainment Center, Trampo, Red Bull and Corona café.
