Weather- thundery rain

Strong winds are again expected in some places along with thundery rain by this afternoon, Tuesday’s weather forecast shows.
Similar conditions were reported from parts of the country Monday.
Thunderstorms were detected in the central and western areas, the Qatar Met department tweeted Monday, urging people to be careful and follow its safety tips. Rain was also reported from the southwestern parts of Qatar.
The detailed forecast for Tuesday says it will be relatively hot during the daytime and local cloud formation is also likely. There is a chance of rain in some places by this afternoon, which may become thundery, and slight to blowing dust is also expected at times.
The wind speed will be 5-15 knots, going up to 30 knots in some areas during thundershowers, according to the weather report.
While there is no marine warning Tuesday, offshore areas are likely to see scattered clouds and there is also a weak chance of light rain in some places.
The maximum temperature Tuesday is expected to be 36C in Abu Samra and 35C in Doha and Al Khor.
On Monday, a maximum temperature of 39C was recorded in Batna and Karana, followed by 38C in Sheehaniya and Jumayliyah, 37C in Abu Hamour, Ghuwairiyah and Shehaimiya, and 36C in Doha (airport area) and the Qatar University area.

Al Wasmi season begins Tuesday

The season locally known as Al Wasmi, which is marked by spells of rain, begins Tuesday and will last for 52 days, the Qatar Met department has said.
Clouds move from the west to east during this period and rainfall at the beginning of Al Wasmi is usually an indication of a good rainy season, according to a statement by the department.
This season is named so because it coincides with rainfall that helps certain local plants grow, such as helianthemum and geranium, the statement notes.
Climate records indicate that the maximum temperature decreases gradually in Doha during this season, going below 35C, while the minimum drops to about 20C. Overall, mild temperature is experienced during the day and it becomes relatively cool at night, especially under the influence of dry northwesterly winds.
On a cautionary note, the Met department said flu and other diseases are common during this transitional period. Accordingly, experts recommend the use of flu vaccination, washing hands regularly and avoiding direct contact with ailing people.
