Katara - the Cultural Village Foundation has announced that it is continuing its efforts, in collaboration with Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS), to support the ongoing relief campaign in aid of families in need in Somalia.
The announcement was made in the presence of Katara general manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti and QRCS secretary-general Ali bin Hassan al-Hammadi at the Katara Amphitheatre on Tuesday.
This relief campaign “stems from Katara’s attempts to reach out to those parts of the world’s population that are in need of the basic necessities and amenities of life”, according to a press statement.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr al-Sulaiti said: “It is my utmost pleasure to welcome everyone here today as we announce the details of the relief campaign, which expresses a long-standing and well-rooted approach to humanitarian acts by the citizens of the State of Qatar.
“We would also like to acknowledge the co-operation and guidance we have received from Qatar Red Crescent Society, which has directly reached out and expressed solidarity with the needy and suffering Somalian families. I commend this fruitful co-operation between the Cultural Village and QRCS, as we continue to aid and assist this campaign in every possible way.
“This relief campaign has managed to gather donations both in cash and kind”.
He said donations in kind filled 12 containers and included 200 tonnes of dates as well as other relief items such as clothing, shoes, refrigerators, blankets and tent, collectively worth QR2,319,000.
Working with the QRCS office in Mogadishu, the Cultural Village has announced that the donations will be shipped out within the next few days to Somalia, which is experiencing the “drastic effects of severe drought and starvation”, the statement notes.
During the press conference, al-Hammadi expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the Katara general manager for his continued support and efforts towards providing humanitarian aid to countries suffering from natural calamities and disasters.
