Al Sadd continued their undefeated start to the QSL season with a narrow 1-0 win over a resilient Al Khor side yesterday evening. A second half strike from captain Xavi gave Al Sadd all three points, in what will be seen as an ideal preparation for their upcoming Qatar Clasico match against Al Rayyan on Wednesday evening.
Jesualdo Ferreira’s team kept targeting the left hand side during the first half and duly created a chance of note through the ever lively Abdulkarim Hassan, the Qatar International fired a shot from a tight angle which was eventually saved by Baba Djibrial.
Credit to Al Khor they weathered the wave after wave of Al Sadd attack.
Ferreira’s side started the second half as they ended the first, and with just five minutes on the clock, Al Sadd found their mark. A smart cross from Abdulkarim Hassan found Xavi, who hit a half volley into the ground which bounced past a sprawling Baba Djibrial for his fourth goal of the season.
Al Kharaitiyat and Al Shahania shared the points with a 1-1 draw Al Khor Stadium yesterday evening. The last ten minutes plus injury time provided a goal for each side and saw two penalties awarded to Al Shahania. Kharaitiyat’s Jeremy Bokila and Shahania’s Mohamed Tiaba, who scored off a penalty in the final kick of the game, were the scorers.
The first half was a tactical affair with both teams testing the waters. It was uneventful in terms of goalmouth action.
The first goal of the game came in the 88th minutes. Congolese striker Bokila sent the ball home with his right foot from close range after he connected with an inch-perfect cross from Abdelhaadi Ameen from the right.
The game ended with some late drama as Shahania were awarded a second spot-kick after Tiaba was brought down in the box by Mohamed Salam. All the pressure was on Tiaiba who managed to score the penalty in the last kick of the game.
